ESSENTIAL BELIEF ASSESSMENT #1
1 God is a perfect being and cannot make a mistake.
God is holy, holy, holy, pure, righteous, unstained, and without sin in any way and has been so for all eternity.
2 There is one true God in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
God is Triune in nature. Each person of the Godhead is coequal to the other, differing in function and role, yet one.
3 The Gospel is that Jesus Christ died a literal death on a cross for the sins of the world.
This is a half-gospel. The gospel is that Jesus died and rose from the dead. (1 Cor. 15:2-4).
4 God is unconcerned with my day-to-day decisions.
Although God is holy, perfect, transcendent; yet, he is also personally, intricately, and immanently (with us) involved in our day to day lives and the way we conduct ourselves. Jesus tells his disciples shortly before his capture, torture, and crucifixion: “If you love me, you will obey my commands.” (John 14:15)
5 Only those who trust in Jesus Christ alone as their Savior receive God’s free gift of eternal salvation.
“I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6. No other religion, faith, object, or person can deliver a person to eternal salvation other than Jesus Christ himself.
6 The Bible has the authority to tell us what we must do.
The Bible is God’s authoritative word and special revelation to his people. It holds all authority on earth to speak to design and how we should therefore conduct our lives.
7 Before God, humanity is of the same value, worth, and dignity as animals.
Humanity is of higher value, worth, and dignity than the rest of all creation. God made humanity in his image, or like God, that set them apart as the crowning jewel of all that God created so that humanity would even rule over and cultivate the rest of creation.
8 Everyone sins a little, but most people are good by nature.
All are born sinful in nature. The natural default of every human is to sin. Even when someone does something seemingly good, kind, or generous, it is still sinful if the motivation for a morally good act is done unto the glory of God as opposed to self-glory.
9 God created humanity because he was lonely.
God has self-sufficiently existed for all eternity in fellowship with himself – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.God has never been lonely because he has never been alone.
